We are saddened to tell you that because of the COVID-19 virus and the CDC and state protocols regarding large indoor gatherings, we are postponing our event until the Fall.  It will definitely proceed.

Our top priority is for the health and safety of our supporters and our guests.  Upon learning that the CDC had projected that it might take several months for our health authorities to enable us to return to a normal life as we know it, and out of an abundance of caution, we have taken decisive and informed action to do our part in limiting the spread of COVID-19 by postponing the event. In addition, since it is projected that the pandemic is only going to get worse and there is no concrete estimate as to when precautions will end, we thought it unwise to invest in the financial commitments to put on this event, only to have it cancelled at the last minute.  By taking the precautionary measure of postponement promptly, we are not only ensuring everyone’s safety, but also are being fiscally responsible.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.  We will post information as soon as we have a new date. If you already have raffle tickets, save them. We have all the stubs and will make sure they are in the drawing when it is held.

Dr. Michael Grogan
Director and Co-Founder of The Jeannette Prandi Children’s Center
Michael Grogan, PhD, is our first ever Fellow Awardee. This special honor is granted because of his dedication to the children of our community, his creative work to educate children and families about the issues surrounding child sex abuse and his partnering with SIMC in various projects over the past 20 years. Dr. Grogan is an expert in the field of treatment of victims of child sexual abuse. Early in his career, he recognized the nature of re-victimization that occurs when mandated authorities conducted required interviews of children who were suspected of being abused. California law requires multiple agencies to investigate allegations of child molestation. Even though the young victim may be suffering from post-traumatic stress, shame and fear, several agencies re-interview the child. Teachers, police officers, social workers and prosecutors—all meaning well— often added to the trauma and weakened any hope of convicting the abuser. Dr. Grogan worked tirelessly to help establish the Jeannette Prandi Children’s Center, a child-friendly center where one member of a specially trained team conducts the forensic interview while others observe behind a one-way mirror. Dr. Grogan has expanded the center’s mission to include education and treatment. In conjunction with the District Attorney’s Office and the drama program at San Marin High School, he has written and directed films on sexting, bullying, and other pivotal issues, and has shown these films to hundreds of students in almost all of Marin’s schools. Constantly aware of the emotional difficulties for staff to conduct these interviews, he has advanced the JPCC to include support and training for the forensic interviewers. Joyous and energetic, he is simply irreplaceable.
