Long-time SIMC member Hazel Barbano celebrated her 100th birthday in April with a week full of family, friends, and special surprises.
Hazel, who has been a member of SIMC since 1963, was presented with special mementos of her days as a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II, as well as recognition from State Senator Mike McGuire.
Another touching part of the celebration was the presentation of the 2018 Hazel Barbano Music Award, which is an annual award designed to benefit talented girls and young women who seek an instrumental musical education. This year's recipient was Adriana Flores Salman, and the award was presented at Hazel's party. Adriana performed her music for Hazel's birthday.....what a special treat for everyone! Several of Hazel's Soroptimist Sis-STARS were in attendance at the afternoon event to help Hazel celebrate her milestone birthday. We love you, Hazel!

We raised $6000 at the Style-a-Thon this year! This surpassed the goal we had set for this year, and it is all due to the hard work and dedication of Kathy Lindley and the stylists at Bellissima Salon, and all of the effort by Soroptimist members before and on the day of the event. Many thanks also to the generous donors who took advantage of the opportunity to get pampered while supporting a very worthwhile cause. SIMC members Kathy Lindley and Daria Sievers presented the Style-a-Thon proceeds to Marin Cancer Institute representatives Brian French, Joann Rossi, Alison Gause and members of the Marin Oncology staff on Thursday, December 7. There were smiles and hugs all around!
